Step by Step
Data subject access request
Request a report from MIE detailing previous verifications conducted using your personal information.
To initiate a Data Subject Access Request, contact us by sending an email to mieinformationofficer@mie.co.za with the subject line “Data Subject Access Request”.
Here is the process:
- Complete the Data Subject Access Request Form and provide a copy of your ID.
- Upon receipt of all necessary documentation, MIE will conduct an ID Verification with Photo to confirm the accuracy of the information you provided.
- Once a positive verification is confirmed, we will manually retrieve the requested report(s) from the MIE system. This process upholds your right to data portability under GDPR regulations.
Additional information or documents
Should you require additional information or documents, MIE can provide these at a nominal fee. The cost varies depending on the format requested and the effort involved in gathering and preparing the data. In line with POPIA Section 23 (1)(b), we reserve the right to charge for these services. Please note that processing your request may take up to 30 business days.

Disputes
Initiate a dispute with your MIE report
If you believe any information in your MIE report is incorrect—whether you've viewed the report yourself or have been informed of its contents by a third party accessing it for a lawful purpose—you can lodge a dispute using the MIE Dispute Form.
How to lodge a dispute:
- Complete the MIE Dispute Form and Power of Attorney: Fill out the form with accurate information to support your dispute.
- Attach Required Documents: Provide all necessary supporting documents to substantiate your claims.
- Send to MIE: Email the completed form and documents to miedisputes@mie.co.za.
Upon receiving your completed form and documents, the MIE disputes team will:
- Verify the completeness of your submission.
- Formally acknowledge your dispute and provide you with an MIE dispute reference number.
Resolution Timeline:
You can expect a resolution to your dispute within 20 business days. We are committed to a transparent and efficient dispute resolution process to ensure your information is accurate and up-to-date.
Data subject deletion request
If you wish to have your personal information removed from MIE's databases, you can initiate a Data Subject Deletion Request.
Steps to Request Deletion:

- Verify Your identity:
To proceed with your request, provide proof of identity and complete the Data Subject Deletion Form. - Documentation review:
Once we receive all required documents, we will conduct an ID Verification with Photo to confirm the information you provided is accurate. - Investigation and compliance:
Following a positive ID verification, MIE will review your deletion request. It's important to note that the retention of personal information by MIE adheres to legislated retention periods. If your request falls within these periods, the information may not be removable. - Notification of outcome:
We will inform you of the outcome via email. If deletion is approved and executed, we will notify you accordingly.
